Job Summary

We are seeking a Farm Accounting Officer who will focus on service and retention of larger more complex customers, marketing and promoting accounting services, attending prospective customer calls with lending and insurance business development teams, and providing specialized accounting expertise to others across the Association. Complete timely and technically accurate accounting and perform other related activities for a portfolio of all types of farm entities. Experienced officers with a breadth of first-hand accounting experience skilled at taking care of customer relationships. This role has deep product & accounting knowledge and acts as a trusted advisor to build relationships with customers and prospects. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Service and Operations  

  • Provides timely and accurate accounting services for farming operations and owners of farmland, while providing quality customer service and advice. Services may include depreciation, payroll, bill pay, cash and accrual statements, enterprising and full-service accounting. 
  • Educates farm accounting customers and teammates on the importance and effectiveness of timely and accurate reporting. 
  • Act as the primary contact for accounting-related service for the customer. 
  • Manage your own time to complete customer work by deadlines. 
  • Remain current on accounting rules. 
  • Share expertise by delivering internal presentations and answering questions from other officers and teammates. 
  • Invoice customers according to price minimums and percentage increases. 
  • Follow department and association established processes. 
  • Actively participate in presentations at industry events and customer meetings to promote accounting expertise. 

Sales  

  • Represent the Associations at industry and agricultural events in the region. 
  • Proactively provide referrals to other teammates, identifying opportunities for collaboration and cross-selling. 
  • Promote and build reputation and image within community, region, and association. 

Projects, Initiatives, and Other Operational Work  

  • Volunteer for and collaborate with the team on special projects and initiatives. 

 

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Cont.

Portfolio - Develop and maintain solid knowledge of applicable systems. Provide accounting services to a portfolio of customers, while progressing in operations complexity and oversight independence. Develops competence, eventually performing the job role independently and supporting a portfolio of customers. Provide financial and business consulting customers. Follow department and association established processes. Continue to grow professionally through professional development. May work toward CPA Certification or other applicable certifications. Newer Officers coordinate with team members on complex transactions and provide customer problem resolution. Experienced Officers are capable of addressing all aspects of farm accounting processes, in complex situations. Participate in department projects and committees. As experience progresses, shares expertise by participating in internal presentations and answering questions from other officers and teammates. Experienced Officers provide training and mentorship to less experienced tax teammates. Provide referrals to other teammates, identifying opportunities for collaboration and cross-selling.

 

Market - Independently provide accounting services to a portfolio of larger, more complex customers. Provide financial and business consulting to customers. Capable in addressing all aspects of farm accounting processes, even in complex situations. May have received CPA certification, advanced degree or other applicable certification. Provide training and mentorship to less experienced tax teammates. Follow department and association established processes. Participate in department projects and committees. Share expertise by delivering internal presentations and answering questions from other officers and teammates. Proactively provide referrals to other teammates, identifying opportunities for collaboration and cross-selling. Actively participate in presentations at industry events and customer meetings to promote farm accounting expertise. Represent the Associations at industry and agricultural events in the region. Actively participate in sales calls with Business Development Officers. Proactive involvement in regional go to market strategy.

Travel Time

  • 25% travel during the day
  • 5% travel overnight

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance or other related business field

Years of Experience

  • 0 - 4 years experience in Accounting

Certification and Technical Requirements

  • Market Officer - CPA, advanced degree or other applicable certifications encouraged
