Job Summary

We’re looking for a Financial Database Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be asked to actively participate in the technical design, development, administration, and evaluation of existing or proposed databases by providing system expertise and database domain knowledge. Monitor database systems to ensure optimal performance to meet business requirements. Responsible for designing, transforming, and deploying data pipelines that move data from core financial systems to downstream processes. Provide support for the timely resolution of production issues which can extend outside of normal business hours. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Database Management 

  • Utilize management tools to maintain data confidentiality, integrity, and availability in database environments. 
  • Adhere to standardized database procedures and standards regarding the administration, role-based security, and utilization of database systems. 
  • Apply knowledge of Microsoft and Oracle databases to maintain consistent peak performance and data security. 
  • Provide support via an on-call rotation to monitor key enterprise systems and avoid service interruptions. This includes creating, monitoring, and responding to alerts and notifications for system events. 

Database Design and Development 

  • Analyze, design, and implement sound database schemas. 
  • Collaborate with vendors, product owners, end users and technical teammates to define and design new data requirements, opportunities for automation, and resolve technical issues. 
  • Provide expertise in creating database tables, views, indexes, constraints, triggers, stored procedures, rules and other objects to optimize performance and enforce data integrity. 

Data Transformation and Movement 

  • Provide expertise regarding the extraction, transformation, and loading of data. 
  • Develop and manage data transformations that automate and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of data processes. 

Data Reporting 

  • Assist in developing, generating, and distributing data driven reports to meet the needs of business operational systems, business information systems, and ad-hoc decisioning. 
  • Assist business analysts, end-users, and management by creating PL/SQL, T-SQL and Snowflake queries (as necessary) to support ad-hoc report generation and data analysis. 

Testing and Deployment 

  • Work with financial system and database analysts to develop adequate testing procedures for database enhancements and data corrections. 
  • Deploy using DevOps practices to ensure rapid and reliable delivery of database objects, reports and pipelines. 

 

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or MIS

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Database management and development, experience with financial database architecture and decision support tools in an Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server environment
